Obituary for Audrey Kouloheris Powers
POWERS, Audrey Kouloheris, 82, died Wednesday, February 27, 2019, in Redwood City, CA after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Born in Lafayette, LA, to Chester and Clara (Benton) Rush, she graduated from the University of LA – Lafayette. She traveled to Greece and married her long-time pen pal, Anastasios “Tas” Kouloheris. They lived in Greece for a year before moving back to the U.S. They lived in Chicago and Atlanta, before moving to Brandon in 1968 and resided here for 45 years. After raising her family, she applied her training in psychology as a drug and alcohol abuse counselor and case manager for DACCO. She later served as an advisor to the drug court in Hillsborough County. After retirement, she continued to be active in her church, First Baptist Church of Brandon. She and her Sunday School class volunteered to help residents of local nursing homes with arts and crafts activities. Audrey was a loving and caring person always willing to help neighbors and those less fortunate than herself. She is survived by her children, Jack Kouloheris, and his husband, Ken Shepard, Ossining, N.Y.; daughter, Annette Kouloheris Baird, Redwood City, CA; sisters-in-law, Magda Apostolidou, Jeanette Rush and Bonnie Rush and nieces and nephews, Venetia Apostolidou, Akis Apostolidou, Charles Rush, Gina Rush Calogero, James Rush, Jeanette Rush Alford, Robert Rush, Donna Rush Mayeux, David Rush, Lynn Rush Elston, Brian Rush and Timothy Rush. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold M. Powers; her first husband, Anastasios Kouloheris; her brothers, Earl, Warren “Pete” and Morris Rush, as well as her sister, Esther Rush Ives.
