Obituary for Edwin Perry Wilds
Edwin “Perry” Wilds was born June 19, 1937 in Inman, South Carolina. He passed away peacefully with his wife Cynthia at his side on October 4, 2018 after a brief struggle with cancer. He played football for his high school from the time he was in the 7th grade, was the homecoming king, and lettered in 3 sports. He joined the Navy in 1954 and served 4 years. Then he moved to Miami where he worked various jobs until he started his own business, Perry’s Beauty Salon, and later added Perry’s Barber Shop. He also worked as a plumber and he was always remodeling his home. Perry loved to spend summers in North Carolina and to travel in his mini motor home. He loved to fish in the Gulf Stream, camp and travel. He had an artistic flair, a great sense of humor and was very sociable. His favorite activity was to gather with his large family. He also had a large circle of close friends at Panera, Encore and St. Andrews UMC where he was a member of the church.

Perry's personality was larger than life. He would light up a room and get everybody laughing. We all have many loving memories that we will cherish forever.

He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Cynthia Gowdy Wilds, son Donald Perry Wilds (Wanda), daughter Diana D. Wilds, stepchildren Kimberly K. Smith (Alan Goldstein), Kerry D. Smith, DMD (Diana), and Randall T. Smith (Rene); grandchildren Raymond McGreger, Nicki Cromwell, Ryan Consul, Meagan Parenteau, Cassie McCarty, Heather Wilds, Jereme Lewis, Joshua Wilds, Danielle Wilson, Tommy Smith, Michael Smith, Nicole Smith, Taylor Smith, and Kyle Smith, and great-grandchildren, Caleb Cromwell, Jacob Parenteau, and Julia Dawn Parenteau. He was predeceased by his daughter Dawn O’Hearn and son Darrell Wilds.
