SNOOK, Chris R. Scogin, passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2008, following a long battle with lung cancer. A native of Jasper AL, she was a 55-year resident of Brandon. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Allen Scogin and is survived by her loving husband, Walter L. Snook; her daughter, Debi Haager (James) of Brandon; three grandsons, Derek, Brooklyn, NY, Wesley, Tapei, Taiwan and Alex, Berlin, Germany; stepdaughter, Linda Keatts (Glenn), Westminster MD; stepson, Matthew Snook (Ciney), Tampa; two step-grandsons, Daniel and Christopher, Tampa; seven siblings, all of Alabama: Kitty Anderson, Barbara Brown, Ed Richardson, Doug Richardson, Paula Byrd, Wanda Wolfe and Pat Hyche. She was co-owner of Scogin's of Brandon and Brandon's "First Lady of Fashion", founder of the Brandon News, honorary Mayor of Brandon 1991-92 (raising a record amount of money, not surpassed for 12 years), member of the Board and Fund Raiser for the American Cancer Society. She produced and hosted a cable television show, first with Dick Jacobs called "Styles and Sounds" and later "A Time with Chris"; received the Community Service Award from the Brandon Junior Women's Club (BWJC) in 1979, was a charter member of the Brandon Chamber of Commerce, a Director of Center Place, "First Lady of the Year" by Beta Sigma Phi in 1993, was one of the Pioneer Women of Brandon, helped establish the first library in Brandon, was first President of the BJWC and, in 2007, was awarded the Courage Award by the American Cancer Society for her fight against cancer. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church of Brandon, where she enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels. Chris traveled extensively, and loved to play golf, hike and snow ski. She produced many fashion shows in the area and was Mistress of Ceremonies for the "Miss Egypt Temple Shrine" pageant for 10 years. Her love and knowledge of fashion led to her work in SteinMart's Boutique Dept., where she enjoyed helping many of her friends and former customers. The family would like to thank Drs. S. Antonia and K. E. Sommers and the dedicated staff at Moffitt, Dr. K. Kepes and her staff in Brandon, and the staff at LifePath Sun City Center Hospice House. The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 27, 2008, from 2:00 until 4:00 P.M. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 402 E. Lumsden Rd., Brandon. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday, April 28, 2008, at 10:00 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church of Brandon, 120 N. Knights Avenue, Brandon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the H. Funeral Information

The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 27, 2008, from 2:00 until 4:00 P.M. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 402 E. Lumsden Rd., Brandon. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday, April 28, 2008, at 10:00 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church of Brandon, 120 N. Knights Avenue, Brandon.
