Glen A. Overby

Overby, Glen A., or Opa as he was affectionately known, died on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at Tampa General Hospital. Born on October 22, 1939, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, to Henry and Bertie Overby. Together with his younger brother, John, he grew up in Mountain Pine, Arkansas and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Arkansas in 1961 and would later go on to earn two Masters degrees. He entered the Army in 1962 and served two tours in Vietnam. He was a decorated combat soldier receiving many awards and accolades, including 2 Bronze Stars, numerous Meritorious Service Medals and the Master Parachutist Badge. He was the Honor Graduate at Army Jumpmaster School and was a proud member of the 101st Airborne Division and retired as a Lt. Colonel in 1986. Post retirement, he became a tax preparer for HR Block where he served clients for 27 years. His co-workers fondly recall the 'teacher' in him. Learning was his passion, and he loved sharing his knowledge with others. He is survived by his daughters, Tami Overby of Washington DC and Sandi Overby Kwak of Seoul, Korea; five grandchildren, Amber Overby Brinkley, Cody Cheyenne Overby and Grace Riley Kwak; two great grandchildren, Lily and Charlie Brinkley, and brother John Overby, and his wife Ann, of Hot Springs, Arkansas. He will be deeply missed and remembered by many, including his step grandchildren George, wife Shea, Joanna Quraishi and former daughter-in-law, Lisa Brock.
