Donald Allen Korte (95), a long-time resident of the Brandon area, passed away March 5, 2023, surrounded by his family at Tessera Assisted Living in Brandon, FL.
Born May 28, 1927 in St Louis, MO, Don met the love of his life as a teenager and married her July 17, 1954. They celebrated their 60th anniversary before she passed in 2015. They had four sons and moved to Brandon in 1972. A member of New Hope, formerly First United Methodist Church of Brandon, for nearly 60 years, Don loved the Lord and was an incredible husband and father of great faith.
Don served in the Navy and Navy Reserves from 1945-1953. He graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in mechanical engineering. He was a successful engineer and plant manager for years, but he was most proud of the family business they started in 1977 that continues with two Ace Hardware locations where 4 generations of the family have now worked. Don was an only child which he said always made him want a large, close family. To date, he is the patriarch of an extended family of 43, and the stores and monthly Korte Family Fun Nights have created a rare bond.
He is survived by his sons, David Korte (Sharon), Greg Korte (Lori), Bruce Korte (Lynne), Steve Korte; grandchildren, Teresa Bullard (Tony), Chris Korte (Laura), Beth Gray (Matt), Stephanie Korte, Katrina Triplett (Bobby), Kelly Korte, Suzanne Korte, Mary Gray (David), Kayla Korte; 18 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, William McQueen, and 2 nieces. Nearly all of whom live in Brandon, FL, and brought great joy to him all his life.
Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, March 10, 2023 at Southern Funeral Care, Riverview, with the family receiving friends from 10:30 A.M. until service time.
