Obituary for Joseph "Joe" Guffey
Joseph (Joe) Guffey was born in Rutherford, County, N.C. on December 31, 1952 to Maurice and Josie Guffey. He grew up in Forest City, N. C. and during his life lived in Fort Worth, TX, Broken Arrow, OK, Charlotte, NC and Brandon, FL. He fought a long health battle with kidney failure (receiving a kidney transplant from his friend, Hank Weinzierl, in 2002). He was diagnosed with lymphoma in 2018. He passed away peacefully at home on November 9, 2021. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice and Josie, and his brother, Larry Guffey. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Janie; son, Drew (Abbey) and grandchildren Presley (11), Charlotte (10), Merrick (2); daughter, Paige Pendino (Joe); brother, Maurice Guffey, Jr. (Mary); sister-in-law, Miriam Walker (Roger); brothers-in-law, Bobby Barton (Julie), Bruce Barton (Mary), Boyce Barton (Diane); 13 nieces and nephews and 11 great nieces and nephews. Joe attended Appalachian State University and his primary work experience was at First Union National Bank and Suncoast Credit Union, where he retired in January of 2017 after 25 years as their Purchasing Director. Joe trusted in the Lord at the age of 13 and was an active member at Bell Shoals Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, greeter in the parking lot, and taught the Faith Ambassadors Life Group. Joe had a servant’s heart and found great joy in serving the Lord and others. He had a special love for ministering to widows. Joe enjoyed playing golf, grilling, going to the beach and being home with his family. He had such a giving heart. Joe impacted many lives and his legacy will live on in the lives of people he touched as Joe enjoys his reward in heaven. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 20, 2021, in the chapel at Bell Shoals Baptist Church, Brandon, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please mail donations to Forever Home Foundation at 1646 W. Snow Avenue, #149, Tampa, FL 33606 or donate online at foreverhomefoundation.com.
