Obituary for Richard S. Ormsby
We are sad to announce that Richard S. Ormsby (85), of Wimauma, FL, formerly of West Springfield, MA passed at home surrounded by his loving wife and children on 2/8/21. Richard was born on 9/25/1935 in Bath, NY and was predeceased by his parents Henry Lloyd Ormsby, and Fannie Mae Laura Ormsby (nee Davis), and his siblings: Harry Ormsby, Mary Habberfield, Nancy Dyer, and is survived by Tyke Morse, Bonnie Kastner, and Bill Ormsby (Rose), and brother-in-law Roger Dyer, and Frederic Gionet. He also leaves behind his beloved wife: Jeannette (Gionet) Ormsby, to whom he was married for 16 years, and his children (from his first marriage to Patricia Downey Ormsby): Kathleen Weiss (John), Timothy Ormsby, and Thomas Ormsby. He had five cherished grandchildren, Samantha, Erin, and Meghan Ormsby and Brittany and Alex Weiss. Richard graduated from Haverling High School in 1954 where he excelled in many sports and caught the eye of the Brooklyn Dodgers. He was offered a Minor League Baseball contract which unfortunately came to an untimely end with a baseball injury. He went on to graduate from the Rochester Business College, and then proudly served four years in the US Marine Corps. Richard then entered the insurance industry, and eventually founded the Richard S. Ormsby Insurance Agency, which continues to service the insurance needs of many in West Springfield, MA. Richard’s quick wit and warmth will be missed greatly. He made many good friends wherever he went and enjoyed giving of his time and talents. He especially enjoyed golfing, playing cards, and sharing his talents in fishing, and hunting with his son, Tim. He was past President of the local chapter of the International Good Sam Recreation Vehicle Club: “Trail Blazing Sam’s”, where he and Jeannette created many wonderful memories. The family is so grateful to Dr. Barrios and the staff at South Bay Hospital in Sun City Center, FL as well as his personal physician Dr. Maria Razon for exceptionally kind and compassionate care. A Funeral Mass will be held at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Sun City Center, FL on Monday, 3/15/21, at 10:30 am, all are welcome to attend. His Committal Service at the Sarasota National Cemetery will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Saint Jude’s Children's Research Hospital in memory of Richard.
