William Royall "W.R. or Bill" McMullen
McMULLEN, William Royall "W. R. or Bill", 93, of Riverview, FL, passed away peacefully at his daughter's home in Tampa on Tuesday, June 18, 2013. He was predeceased by his wife, Helen Verdyck McMullen and brother Edmund Jeffords McMullen and is survived by his two daughters, Helen Marie Sledge "Reebo" (George) and Linda M. Alfonso (James), six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Although a native of Tampa, Bill's heart was in Riverview where he lived and grew citrus until 1999. He knew that a farmer's best fertilizer was his footsteps. As a second generation citrus grower he succeeded his father as a board member of Florida Citrus Mutual in 1957 until 2000. Bill also sat on the board of Lake Region Packing Association, Bank of Riverview and Partners Bank of Florida. He was Mac to his wife, Daddy to his daughters, Dada or Nana to his grandchildren, Billy Mc to his childhood friends, Bill or WR, to all who knew him as an adult, but no matter how long you knew him you knew he was a true southern gentleman whose word was his bond. He was always there for those in need and he will be truly missed by his family and friends. May god bless him. Funeral services will be held 12:00 Noon on Saturday, June 22, 2013, at Southern Funeral Care, 10510 Riverview Drive, Riverview, with the family receiving friends one hour prior to services. Interment will follow at Myrtle Hill Memorial Park. The family requests no flowers but, anyone wishing to make a donation in his name are encouraged to do so to St. Matthew's Anglican Church, 10701 Bloomingdale Ave., Riverview FL 33578 or the charity of your choice.
