Virginia Wanda Fernandez, age 72, passed away on Sunday March 3, 2024. She was a beloved mother, cousin, aunt, and friend who will be deeply missed and forever loved. Wanda was born on March 23, 1951, in Atlanta Georgia. Wanda was preceded in death by her mother Doris Velasco and sister Terry Knouse. She had a passion for law enforcement and served 4 years with the Tampa Police Department and over 26 years with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. Throughout her career, she was known for her hard work, dedication, and passion for helping others. But more than anything, Wanda was a devoted mother. She loved spending time with her family, sharing stories, watching her favorite movies, and baking an incredible peach cobbler. She was always there to offer guidance, support, and encouragement, no matter what challenges she faced. Wanda is survived by her daughter Christie (Pedro) Torres, Cousin Sheena (Danny) Strickland, Cousins Dylan (Allison) Strickland and Dalton Strickland, Niece Vanessa Knouse, and Nephew Kelly (Tara) Knouse. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her.
