Obituary for Vesta A. Dickerson
Vesta A. Dickerson

DICKERSON, Vesta A., 90, passed peacefully into the arms of her Heavenly Father on January 3, 2016. She was the wife of Rev. Billy J. Dickerson with whom she shared 68 wonderful years of marriage. Vesta was born in Pierce, Florida to Guy Perry and Beatrice Smith Anderson, graduating as the 1943 class Valedictorian of Mulberry High School where she excelled in sports, equestrian pursuits, and music as a stellar pianist. Vesta graduated from Tampa Business College, Jacksonville College, Jacksonville, TX and attended Baylor University as a music student becoming a lifelong Baylor Bear. Vesta was extraordinarily talented in so many ways: as a musician, pianist, teacher, singer, bible scholar and church business administrator serving churches in Texas and Florida including Jackson Heights Baptist Church, Tampa and First Baptist Church of Mango for 48 years. Above all, however, she loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and treasured being a servant to Him and a minister to others. Affectionately known as "Mrs. D," she and Pastor Dickerson formed a ministry team of unparalleled ability and love. Vesta was inspirational in countless numbers of lives as she encouraged and guided all with whom she became acquainted. She leaves a legacy as a Godly woman who exuded respect, wisdom, strength, compassion and devotion to her family and friends. She is survived by her husband, Rev. Billy J. Dickerson; children, Melodie Carol Dickerson, Timothy Luke Dickerson, Matthew Joseph Dickerson and Andrew Michael Dickerson; son-in law, Rex Willis; daughters-in-law, Roxana Dickerson and Debra Dickerson; grandchildren, Currie and David Dickerson, Gabriella and Griffin Guinta; brother, Guy Perry Anderson, Jr. and sister-in-law, Dorothy Anderson. She was predeceased by her parents, sisters, Marguerite Simmons and Lucille Collings; brother Kaylup S. Anderson; brothers-in-law, George M. Simmons and Col. Kenneth L. Collings. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her name to the Florida BaptA Celebration of Life service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Mango 11619 E Dr Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Seffner, FL on Saturday, January 16th at 2:00 p.m. with a reception to follow in the church fellowship hall. ist Children's Home, Lakeland; the Eben-Ezer Baptist Haitian Church, Tampa; or the General Fund of the First Baptist Church of Mango.
