
It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of LTC (Ret) Tommy LeRoy Scott, a proud veteran of the United States Army, on his birthday at age 76 on March 29, 2025, at home in Ruskin Florida. He is predeceased by his parents, MSgt Kenneth LeRoy Scott (Ret USAF) and Virginia Louise Nelson Scott and brother, Jeffery William Scott.
Tom was born on March 29, 1949 in El Paso Texas. He was an avid sportsman who played football, basketball, baseball and rugby in his younger years. During his time in the army, Tom served in Special Forces and was stationed at many installations including North Carolina, Georgia, California, Washington State, Panama, El Salvador, South Korea, Hawaii, and Kansas. He was a member of the USARSO Jumping Ambassadors Parachute Team and the Golden Knights Expedition Team. Tom earned his BA in Political Science from Saint Martin’s University and his MS degree at the University of Kansas. In addition to his time in the military, Tom served as Vice Principal and Principal at Shields Middle School in Ruskin, Florida and as Principal at Marion Rodgers Middle Magnet School in Riverview, Florida. Tom and his wife Sheila hosted a variety of foreign exchange students and had the opportunity to visit with them in their homelands. They also enjoyed traveling the US in their RV with their dog Sparky and taking many cruises together. Tom was an active member of the Roamin’ Oldies Classic Car Club and Charitable Organization and enjoyed going to cruise-ins with his 1962 Ford Thunderbird. He will be remembered as a caring husband, father and brother as well as for his integrity and sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Tom is survived by his wife, Sheila Scott; son, David Scott; stepsons, Ernesto Garcia (Barbara) and Eric M. Garcia (Katya); stepdaughter, Chrissy Nieves (Jose); sisters, Pam Kestler (Paul), Roxanne Scott, Rhonda Newell (Derrick); brother Rick Scott (Sue) and 5 grandchildren.
Service times are, Visitation will begin at 10:00AM on April 8, 2025, followed by a service of remembrance at 11:00AM both at Southern Funeral Care at 10510 Riverview Drive, Riverview FL . Inurnment will take place at the Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Road 72, Sarasota, FL, at 2:00PM
