Obituary for Sue Hartley Smith

Sue passed away on April 2, 2023, of natural causes.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years Theodore “Ted” Vincent Smith, parents Julian Luther Hartley and Esther Franklin Ellis Hartley, sister Eleanor “Tissie” Delores Hartley, granddaughter Jessica Lynn Smith.

She leaves behind son Mark V. (& wife Maria) Smith and Scott C. (& wife Dez) Smith, grandchildren Suzie C. Smith, Jordan S. Smith, Summer A. Smith, Dominique B. “Nikki” Smith, great grandchild Benjamin Allen Maissetti, sister Ann Boyette and many loving relatives and friends.

She was born in Norfolk, VA on January 12, 1944, and moved to Tampa, FL with her parents at a young age. She graduated from Plant H. B. High School in 1963. Then she met the love of her life Ted Smith. They were married in 1963 and built their first home in Riverview, FL. In 1976, she moved with her husband and 2 sons to Miramar, FL. Most of her career, she worked as an insurance agent until she retired.

Sue spent many years in Riverview, Miramar, Ft Lauderdale and Tavernier, FL. He loved boating with family and friends in South Florida and Bahamas. In 1999, she and Ted moved to Sonora California where they bought a home in the mountains.

After enjoying her new life in California, loving nature in the mountains, they decided to be adventurous. The sold there home in 2005 and purchased a class A motorhome, that she and Ted called their home for 16 years. She moved back to Florida for good in July 2019.

Sue and Ted spent 16 years together exploring all they could see in the United States from Key West to Alaska, British Columbia, Alberta, and the Yukon. Sue enjoyed life to the fullest, especially with her husband. She was so passionate about boating, exploring, traveling, friends and mostly her family. She was a beautiful person inside and out, an incredible human being, loving and caring wife, amazing mother and a wonderful friend. She will truly be missed forever by so many.

There will be a private Celebration of Her Life later date.
