Steven Smith, 67, of Riverview, Florida, passed away on June 18, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, love, and a deep appreciation for the great outdoors. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Steve lived a life full of adventure, laughter, and unwavering devotion to the people and passions he held dear.
Steve is survived by his devoted wife of 36 years, Debra Smith; and their three children: Sarah Davis and her husband Andrew of Merrimac, MA; Tyler Smith and his wife Marlaina of Valrico, FL; and Rebecca Dixon and her husband Evan of Riverview, FL. He was the proud Papaw to five grandchildren who brought endless joy to his life: Ezra, Ruzena, Adaline, Oliver, and Eliska. He is also survived by two children from a previous marriage, Stephanie Trimble and Matthew Smith. He is also survived by his sister Patricia Furlong and her husband Bill; his brother George Smith and his wife Lorraine; and his brother Charles Smith and his wife Peggy.
Steve had a deep appreciation for the simple joys in life. He loved the roar of a NASCAR engine, the quiet peace of a fishing pole in hand, and had a great passion for hunting and guns. He was a steadfast believer in the legend of Sasquatch, and his fascination with the unknown always sparked curiosity and wonder. Steve was a passionate supporter of all his Tampa Bay sports teams, cheering them on through every season. He had a special place in his heart for the Tampa Bay Lightning and never missed a chance to root for his favorite hockey team. Steve also had a deep fascination with space exploration. He never missed a launch—whether he was watching it on TV or outside in the backyard with his family, eyes to the sky.
Steve was incredibly handy, always ready to tackle any project around the house with skill and determination. Whether fixing, building, or improving, he took pride in doing things right and lending a helping hand to family and friends.
His favorite place to be was in the mountains, surrounded by trees and sky, exploring the beauty of America’s national parks, a love he passed on to his children and grandchildren.
A public service to celebrate Steve’s life will be held on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at Southern Funeral Home, 10510 Riverview Drive, Riverview, FL. A public viewing will take place from 4:00 to 5:00 PM, immediately followed by a memorial service at 5:00 PM. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to make a donation in Steve’s name to any U.S. National Park of your choice—a fitting tribute to a man who found joy, peace, and adventure in nature.
