Sreten Zivovic
Sreten Steve Zivovic was born in 1949 in the town of Prokuplje in what was then Yugoslavia. At the age of sixteen his family immigrated to the United States of America, and he dedicated the rest of his life to his new country. For 26 years, he actively served as a U.S. Navy officer, earning the rank of Captain and holding three separate commands before health concerns led to his reluctant retirement. Even then, his work was not done. For 12 more years he taught Naval Science as the head of Tampas Gaither High School JROTC program. Captain Zivovic always strove to bring out the best in those around him and to leave his commands and his students in better shape than he found them. His success is evident in his rows of commendations and awards and in the eyes of former students who kept in touch years after their graduations. He is survived by his wife of 45 years Christine; children Eric and Jennifer; beloved grandchildren Kaelyn, Bryce, and Mason; as well as his sister Slavica; and many in-laws, family, and friends.
Funeral Information
Captain Zivovic will be brought to his final resting place in Florida National Cemetery on Thursday, June 29, 2017, where a military ceremony with full honors will be performed at 11:30 AM.
