Sherman Hendry, 93, of Englewood,FL, formerly of Brandon, FL, passed away on Sunday, June 18, 2023. Sherman was born in Detroit, Michigan to Lee Roy and Iris Hendry. Soon after his birth they moved to Florida where he grew up in Bartow, Englewood and Ft. Green. He retired from General Telephone Company and the Army National Guard in 1990 as a Lt. Colonel. Sherman was a member of Brandon Masonic Lodge #114, F.&A.M., 32nd degree Scottish Rite, Egypt Temple Shrine, was extremely active in the Brandon Shrine Club; Brandon Lions Club, Brandon Elks Lodge #2383, a Brandon High School Booster for many years and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Brandon for over 50 years. For many years he participated and taught with the JROTC program at Camp Blanding, FL. He was preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years, Mary Lillian Hendry and is survived by two children, Deborah Halgash (Jerry) and Phillip D. Hendry; two grandchildren, Christopher Castellano (Shannon) and Cara Spoto (Sean); two great-granddaughters, Chrystina Ciroli and Bennett Lillian Spoto and sister, Bonnie Sanchez, Charlotte,N.C. A Masonic Service will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, June 24, 2023.at the Brandon Masonic Lodge #114, 203 North Moon Avenue, Brandon, FL. Military honors will be conducted by the Brandon High School JROTC Cadets. A reception will follow in the Lodge dining hall. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Shriner's Hospitals for Children.
