Obituary for Sharon "Sherry" Lee Lynch

On December 26, 2022, Sharon Lee “Sherry” Lynch (75) of Riverview, FL, was called to heaven by our heavenly father. Sherry was born on May 18, 1947, to Richard and Miranda Johnston in Washington, D.C. Sherry attended East Brunswick High School in New Jersey where she was very active in sports, school plays, and cheerleading. She represented her town at the 1964 New York World’s Fair as one of their beauty queens. This is also where she met her soulmate and high school sweetheart John Lynch. Graduating high school in 1966, she went on to study business at Middlesex College. After graduation, she started her career at IBM, which introduced her to the business world. Sherry embraced her Italian heritage and had many opportunities to visit Italy and spend time with her aunts, uncles and cousins. In 1984, she and her husband, John, and their two children moved to the Brandon, Florida area. Sherry loved her community and gave back whenever needed. She was involved in coaching, PTA, school children’s programs, Hospice, American Cancer Society, the Kiwanis Club, and the Brandon Chamber, to name a few. She was very instrumental in establishing and growing the family-owned business, Flags Unlimited, over the past 37 years. Her knowledge of business helped streamline the organization’s day-to-day operations and train employees. One of her many goals in life was to see the world and much of that goal was achieved with the extensive traveling Sherry and John did together. She even became a travel agent to book her own cruise itineraries. Sherry was a fierce and determined person with a generous spirit. She was an avid reader, gardener, traveler, cook, talented seamstress, and entrepreneur who was always willing to help others without question. Sherry was a loving wife, a wonderful mother, and an outstanding grandmother (Nonnie). Her compassion for the underdog and the ill was undeniable. For 20 years, she battled against the odds, determined to beat cancer, and enjoy life to the fullest. Always fun, witty, and thoughtful; everyone loved to be in her company.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Miranda Shuford and Richard Johnston, her brother, Ricky, and stepfather, Robert Shuford. She is survived by John, her devoted husband of 52+ years; their two children, daughter, Kimberly and son, Kevin and their spouses, Clay Chancey and Maria (Brescia); their four grandchildren, who she adored: Alessa, Jacob, Paige, and Cole, as well as many nephews and nieces.

Legacies are not born; they are made by an individual and Sherry has made a legacy that will live on with all those who loved her.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial gifts to Wounded Warriors Project, American Cancer Society or the Trey Curry Foundation.
