Obituary for Russell William McNeil
Russell William McNeil, 84, of Lithia, FL, was born on July 6, 1936 and passed away from pulmonary fibrosis peacefully at home among family on Monday, August 31, 2020. A native of Chicago, he had resided here 3 1/2 years coming from St. Charles and Elk Grove Village, IL.
As a young man, Russ was introduced to the printing industry, which he perfected as a pressman during his service in the United States Air Force.
While serving, he enjoyed playing competitive baseball. Upon his honorable discharge, he was offered a Minor League baseball contract with Kansas City, but unselfishly declined in order to take care of his mother.
As a US Air Force veteran, Russ continued to pursue a career in the printing industry, and in 1969 founded Graphic Color Corporation, a manufacturer of quality printing inks.
In 1986, Russ married Doris “Dory” Sobucki and they did everything together. From running the company, to entertaining clients, to traveling the world, they were inseparable.
Russ and Dory were avid golfers with memberships at both Hobe Sound Golf Club and Medinah Country Club.
Working hard and being generous were two of Russ’ core principles. He was a member of St. Christopher Catholic Church, Hobe Sound, FL and St. Stephen Catholic Church, Riverview, FL.
Russ is reunited with his parents; sister, Dorothy Sullivan and beloved golden retriever, Brandy. He is survived by his wife, Dory McNeil; daughters, Nicole (Todd) Lash and Carolyn McNeil; step-sons, Jim (Teri) Sobucki and Dan (Belinda) Sobucki; step-daughter, Donna (Al) Miller; brothers, Don (Irene) McNeil and Johnny Garafalo; Sister in law, Diane Magnuson; grandchildren, Tracy Sobucki, James Sobucki, Ryan Sobucki, Cazden (Marisa) Lash, Dorian McNeil, Elian Rivera, Jaidynne Lash, Allan Miller and great-grandchildren, Lily, Colton & Draven.
Services will be private.
