Roseann “Gef” Smock, age 93, passed away peacefully after celebrating her 93rd birthday. She lived a full and faithful life, embracing many countries and forming lasting friendships wherever she went. Following more than 40 years as a high school English teacher, she answered a call to missionary service in her 70s. She most recently traveled to Thailand and Macedonia, where she ministered to the Roma people in her home country of Macedonia. As her family lovingly shares, “she celebrated her 93rd birthday, went to sleep and stepped into heaven.”
Roseann was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald Lee Smock, who served as a State Department AmEmbassy Communications Officer in the Diplomatic Corps. She is survived by her son, Brett Smock of New York City; her daughter, Juliana Morris of Waterford, Virginia; her son-in-law, Ted Morris of Waterford, Virginia; her grandson, Tyler Morris of Arlington, Virginia; and her granddaughters, Ella Morris and Malia Morris, both of Waterford, Virginia.
She earned her Bachelor’s degree from Penn State University and her Master’s degree from the University of Virginia. In addition to her many years in education, she devoted nine years to missionary service in Chiang Mai, Thailand, and Macedonia.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on February 28 at Bell Shoals Baptist Church in Brandon, Florida.
