Obituary for Robert Wayne Lipsey
Robert Wayne Lipsey, also known as “Papa” to those who loved and knew him best, passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2022, in his home in Brandon, Fl. He was 78 years old. Wayne was born in Moultrie, Georgia on May 5th, 1943 and lived there until he left for college at Valdosta State. After graduating he married the love of his life, Loretta Gayle Coley, and went to work selling trucks for International Harvester (now Navistar) and continued working there until he retired. Wayne was preceded in death by Loretta, his loving wife of 54 years, his brother Donald Roscoe Lipsey, and his sister Marie Lipsey Heath. He is survived by his brother Johnny Ray Lipsey (Donna), his two children, Anthony Wayne Lipsey (Angie) and Laura Montene (Lipsey) Hayes (Matt). Wayne and Loretta had 8 Grandkids: Kayla (Jared), Taylor (Jaryd), Trey, Kendall (Jordan), Courtney (Kaleb), Bailey, Cassidy and Rhett. Wayne is also survived by two Great Grandkids which he referred to as the “GG’s”: Sunny Monroe Davis and Haven Brooke Koutz. A third GG, Wayne’s first great grandson ,is expected in April.
Wayne loved history and antiques and could not resist a nostalgic find at any garage sale. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and absolutely loved NASCAR. Countless Sunday’s were spent around the dinner table with the kids, grandkids and the GG’s with NASCAR always on the TV at the center of it all. In addition to raising a large and close knit family, Wayne also raised a “bumper crop” of squirrels as he would put out seeds and nuts daily and every squirrel in the neighborhood knew where to come for a meal.
Wayne (Papa) will be fondly remembered as the Lion of our Pride, the Leader of our Pack, and for being the proud Husband, Father and Grandfather that he was.
