Obituary for Robert Thomas Mekdeci
Robert Thomas Mekdeci

MEKDECI, Robert Thomas, on March 20, 2014 at 9:00 pm, Robert Thomas Mekdeci passed away at Florida Hospital after a heroic battle against pneumonia and endocarditis. Robert was 29 years old. Robert was born in Miami, Florida on December 7th, 1984 at (time). He was the second child, and first son, of Joseph and Michelle Mekdeci. Always capable of lighting up a room, Robert was a welcoming individual who was constantly surrounded by friends. Due to his non-judgemental nature, saints and sinners alike would find solace in his presence. He suffered a tragic event with the loss of his mother at only 5: an event that would influence his growth and transformation into such an exceptional human being. Within the year his life was blessed with another mother, Elizabeth, and a brother. From a young age, Robert was an extremely athletic young man who thrived in competitive settings. His favorite sport was basketball. Despite his overwhelming love for that one sport, he also excelled at, and enjoyed, other sports such as fishing, boxing, tennis, and football. He was a protector to those whom he cared about most. This became most apparent when he was a younger boy in how he would shield his younger brother from any hardships whenever possible. As a natural continuation of this innate tendency, Robert joined the military at the age of 18. He traveled many places including Iraq where he fought valiantly in a War on Terror. After serving gallantly as one of our finest, Robert was able to return home to loved ones who received him with open arms. He enjoyed seven wonderful years with his family to whom he brought his trademark joy and vitality which was sorely missed in his absence. Robert was preceded in death by his mother, Michelle and his grandfather, Alfred Mekdeci. Robert is survived by his father and mother, Joseph and Elizabeth Mekdeci; brother, Christopher; sister, Jennifer; paternal grandmother, Mary Mekdeci and maternal grandparents, James and Ann Lee. We would like to extend a special thanks to the Florida Hospital's staff for their unwavering support of Robert in his time of need. Of most significance, we would like to recognize a Dr. Marian Menezes whose passion for saving lives is only eclipsed by his ability to do so. He fought bravely alongside Robert exhausting all resources and means possible to win the battle. In the end, the resolution was as it was always meant to be: according to God's plan. Robert's legacy will live on in the lives and actions of those who were fortunate enough to have known him in life. Ever contagious, his prominent influence will fuel an everlasting legacy built on the principles of love, honor, loyalty, and commitment to family above all else.
