Robert Franklin Darden, 82, of Valrico, FL, passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, peacefully in his sleep after a long illness. Born in Athens, GA, November 30, 1941, Robert, affectionately known as Bob, dedicated 32 years to GTE Telecommunications before serving as Pastor of Operations at Bell Shoals Church for 18 years post-retirement.
Throughout his life, Bob was deeply committed to his faith and community, evident in his long-standing involvement with Bell Shoals Church where he also worshipped and taught Bible class for 28 years. After his retirement from GTE, his leadership continued to flourish at the church, impacting many lives through his operational and pastoral work.
Bob was an Army Reserve veteran, a testament to his dedication and service to the country.
An avid golfer, he enjoyed the opportunity to play in ProAM tournaments in Tampa. Bob also enjoyed playing cards and board games with friends and family, traveling, going to Southern Gospel concerts, watching the news and outings with his grandsons, who brought immense joy to his life.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Millard Luther Darden and Anna Margert Guest Darden; his brother, Millard (Bubba) Darden; and sister, Mary Jo Simonton. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mary Etta Darden; son, Todd Darden of Valrico, FL; daughter, Tina Pogorzala (Philip) of Valrico, FL; six grandsons, Bryon Robley, Justin Pogorzala, Tyler Pogorzala, Ryan Fisk, Ryder Fisk, and Joshua Fisk. One great-grandson, Oliver Darden Robley.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at 11:00 am, at Bell Shoals Church, 2102 Bell Shoals Rd, Brandon, FL 33511. Visitation will take place from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, with a reception following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bell Shoals Church principal reduction fund and missions, honoring Bob's commitment to his church and community.
