Obituary for Rita J. Austin
Rita June Austin, our beloved 'Nanny' went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 16, 2022, surrounded by her family. Born in Chicago, Illinois on December 4, 1931 she moved to Charleston, Illinois where she spent most of her life. In her later years, she moved to Riverview, Florida to be close to her Florida family. Rita was a member of the Grace Life Group at the First Baptist Church in Brandon, she was very blessed by the members of her class. She touched many lives through her kind, sweet, and gentle spirit. Being adventurous and fun loving, Rita's greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren playing their games, watching their sports, having tea parties, and playing school. She really enjoyed traveling, taking an Alaskan Cruise, to lobstering in Key West. Nanny will truly be missed. Rita was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Austin; her mother, Freida Van Tuyl; her only brother, Jack Gwin; her youngest daughter, Cheryl Fuqua; and her youngest grandson, Jason Fuqua. Rita is survived by her daughter, Bonnie (Dr.Randy) Hann; her granddaughter, Gina (Doug) Tomlinson; her grandson, Justin (Casey) Hann; her granddaughter-in-law, Jessica Fuqua; and her great-grandchildren, Kira and Cade Fuqua, Faith Tomlinson, Colt and Alabama Hann; and her special furry friends, Luke, Duncan, Magnum, Kabota, and Bernie. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2022 at 1 PM at the First Baptist Church of Brandon. In lieu of flowers, please make donations out to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
