Obituary for Riley Lanair Hogan, Jr.
Riley LanairHogan, Jr., 87, passed away November 30th, 2021.
Riley was born in 1934 in a log cabin in Chiefland, FL, to Riley and Rouamie Hogan. The family later moved to Winter Park, FL, where Riley attended school and graduated from Edgewater High. After briefly attending the University of Florida, Riley travelled the U.S. working for the Washington Post before he returned to Orlando where he met and eloped with Judy, his wife of 65 years.
Riley had a long and successful career which included salesman for Heiztleman Ford in Orlando, serving as the general manager of the Tampa Independent Dairy Farmers' Association, Inc., serving on the board of Pan American and Colonial Banks, and founding numerous other businesses and investment ventures. He was a figure in his community, and served on the Tampa Port Authority Board of Commissioners from 1991-1999 and served as chairman, and was president of the Kiwanis Club from 1985-1986, where he is considered a lifetime member. He was also on the board of the Boys and Girls Club of Brandon where he was instrumental in raising funds to get that chapter started.
Riley was an accomplished woodworker and spent countless hours in his workshop making wooden toys for the Boys and Girls Club and either fixing or building furniture for his family and friends. He will always be remembered for his unrivaled generosity, sound business advice, and love for his family.
Riley joins his son, Riley "Trip" Hogan III and his daughter, Emily Denise Williams, in heaven. He is survived by his devoted wife, Judy; his younger daughter, Terri Fechtel; sons-in-law, Steve Williams and Jay Fechtel; brother, Ronny Hogan; sisters, Tillie Wiley and Joyce Barley; 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren, many that considered him a father figure, a large network of close friends and colleagues, and his precious, devoted spaniel Pumpkin.
A Memorial Service for Riley will be held at New Hope United Methodist Church, 121 N. Knights Ave., Brandon, FL, Saturday, December 11,2021 at 11:00 A.M. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, you may donate to the Boys and Girls Club in Riley‘s name or to a charity of your choice.
