Rev. Lawrence Yarber, Jr.

YARBER, Jr., Rev. Lawrence "Larry", 82 of Riverview, formerly of NYC, entered into rest November 5, 2014. Lawrence is a Veteran of the US Air Force, serving during the Korean conflict. He earned his B.S. from The King's College in Briarcliff Manor, his Masters in Education from Hunter College and Theological degrees from American Divinity School and American Bible College. Larry retired from the Board of Education of NY in September 1983 after 22 years of teaching, leading the Glee Club and coaching track and basketball. He also served as a Chaplain at Veterans Hospital in The Bronx. After serving as Assistant Pastor to his father at First Baptist Church in Elmsford, NY, he founded and co-pastored The Light of the World Christian Center in The Bronx. Being a lover of the ocean and the beach, Lawrence returned to FL where he was born. He remained active in his community and enjoyed a fulfilling social life with friends and family. Larry founded and was president of The Universal Mall Walkers, Inc., based in Brandon, FL. He started the organization for older individuals to remain active and fellowship. Lawrence was an avid NY Giants football fan and enjoyed various genres of music. Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Lawrence Yarber, Sr. and Jessie Bell Hall Yarber; sisters Doris McKelvy, Mary Dessesow; brothers Rev. Lewis N. Yarber and Clarence Yarber. Survivors include his son, Lawrence Yarber III; daughters Rita A.C. Yarber, Annette Yarber, Janeene Yarber Silvester (Kenneth), Melodie Yarber; step-daughter, Veronica Head; grandchildren, George Crooks, Felicia Yarber, Lauren Yarber, Micaiah L. Yarber; brother Nabaa Ali; sister-in-law, Dr. Nancy T. Yarber; formerly espoused to Rev. Bettie D. Hill Yarber and Rita Yarber; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. The family also wishes to extend their sincerest thanks to the doctors and staff of LifePath Hospice.

Funeral Information

A funeral service will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 15, 2014, at Southern Funeral Care, 10510 Riverview Drive, Riverview. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Friday, November 14, 2014, at the funeral home. Interment will be 11:30 A.M. Monday, November 17, 2014, at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL.
