Obituary for Phyllis Farr Blanton
Phyliss Farr Blanton
BLANTON, Phyllis, entered heaven Thursday, November 8, 2007. She is survived by her three children, Linda, Jack and Jamie; and her grandchildren, Keala, Jacob, Erin, Jordan and Emma. She was predeceased by her ex-husband, Jim Blanton; and grandson, Justin. She was born in Quincy, Mass. in 1930, and grew up in Weymouth, Mass. She graduated with honors in English from La Salle University. She married Jim Blanton in 1953 in Maryland, and they subsequently moved to Tampa in 1954, and then to Brandon in 1959. Phyllis ran the household along with the family businesses varying from a paint store, insurance company, dry cleaning, real estate and land development. She was a substitute teacher at the various Brandon schools. Phyllis was a wonderful mother to her three children and to all that were fortunate enough to call her mom or "granny" over the years. By that standard, she had beloved children from Maine to Florida. A friend to all, she loved meeting people and was never happier than when working with them. Her quick wit, smile and gift for telling stories provided instant friendships wherever she was. She never met a stranger, only friends she hadn't met yet. She loved to travel, and after the children left the nest, she explored Europe, and more recently Alaska, Greece, and Croatia. This year, she made a final trip to Guatamala at the age of 76. After spending so many years with the hot Florida summers with red hair and skin that would burn from a picture of the sun, much less the real thing, she spent most of the last 30 years summering in Maine while enjoying her winters in Florida. With her daughter Linda and Keala in Maine, son Jamie (Norine) with Jordan, Justin and Emma in Maryland and son Jack ( Robin) and Jacob and Erin in Florida, she had the best of it all, a family on each end and the middle. Services will be 7 p.m. Tuesday, November 13, 2007, at the Resurrection Catholic Church, 6819 Krycul Ave. in Riverview. A celebration of life will follow in the social hall of the church. Donations may be made to the Brandon Hospital Auxiliary, (813) 681-5551, ext. 3587, or Animal Coalition of Tampa, 1719 W. Lemon St, Tampa, FL 33606. She will be missed by all.
