Patty Ann Kilgore, 69, of Riverview, Florida, passed away from heart failure on Thursday, August 15, 2024 at St. Joseph’s Hospital South. Patty was born on July 22, 1955, in Auburn, New York to Lester and Flossie (Ryan) Harman.
In 1972 she moved to my hometown of Riverview. Thanks to her sister bringing her from New York and to the good fortune of living next door to me (Robert) here in Riverview, Florida.
She married the boy next door in 1974. She became Robert's loving wife and lived a life of wedded bliss for the next 50 years.
Early on there was travel to many states, in order to provide for her first born son, Robert III, and later her daughter, Misti.
Patty led a full and long life. She was employed in a plethora of jobs, one being at Walmart for a bit (her sister Sharan’s rival store) but she lost employment here because family was more important than working a Christmas schedule.
In 1986 she moved back to Riverview with her family. She joined the local church "Assembly of Free Worship", a Pentecostal church, down the street from her home. She became involved in church functions, and other extraordinary ventures. In 1990, she taught in her own non-public school helping students graduate and move to the next chapter in their lives. She was also a business entrepreneur with a bookstore called Lion's Den (TY Tammy). She became involved in the newly established church school, and worked in the church daycare, a place that filled her cup to overflowing.
Her love for children enticed her to take on a ministry in foster care, and in 1991 she began a 9 year ministry as a foster mom. She had 56 children in her care over those nine years. Her ministry to these children was intense and with additional training, she offered specialty care to infants exposed to hardships they had no control over, like crack and cocaine exposure, fetal alcohol syndrome, and broken limbs. Most of her babies were picked up straight from the hospital at about four days old. The second child she cared for was picked up from the hospital on June 21, 1991. This very special infant was with the family long enough that he picked up so many Kilgore traits, he was indistinguishable from an original. We all know him as Troy.
Later in life's journey, Patty set her sights on travel. With a desire to see places throughout the US. Traveling in a motorhome was to be the means. The family purchased a motorhome, the list of destinations was made, the excitement was building.
However, GOD had his plans and called her to be in His service in Heaven.
In lieu of flowers/food, a very nice gesture. As an alternative, a donation to the cost of her memorial would be kind.
Patty was predeceased by her parents, Lester and Flossie Harman, her sister, Dixie Lee Daniels, and her brother, Lester A Harman.
She is survived by her loving husband, Robert P. Kilgore, Jr., her sons, Robert P. Kilgore, III and Troy Z. Kilgore, her daughter Misti D. Kilgore, one grandson, Robert P. Kilgore, IV and her beloved dog, Yeyo Puppy.
