Obituary for Michael Lynn Lawton
Michael Lawton, 77, of Lakeland, FL, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 30, 2021. Michael was born and raised in Elmira, NY. He served two years in the army, from 1967 to 1969. Afterwords, Michael and his wife, Charlene, moved to Tampa, Florida in 1969, where he began a combined 35 year career with the Hillsborough County and Polk County Sheriff‘s offices, retiring in 2008, attaining rank of Captain. During his career, Michael attended college, earning a Masters degree, graduated from the FBI National Academy in 1988 and later, served as chairman of the Polk County Law Enforcement Memorial Fund, Inc. After retiring from law enforcement, he enjoyed 10 years employed with CPS Investment Advisors in Lakeland, FL, as a financial advisor. He was predeceased by his father and mother, Richard and Vivian Lawton and sister, Patricia Silverman. He is survived by wife, Charlene; half- brother, Richard Lawton; half-sister, Terrye Bridgeman; nieces, Debbie (Brad) Shirley, Karen (Bob) Lutz and Linda Woermbke, and their families. Michael was admired and respected by all who knew him and will be dearly missed. Funeral services will be held 2:30 P.M. Friday, April 2, 2021, at Southern Funeral Care, Riverview, with the family receiving friends from 2:00 P.M. until service time. Interment will be in Elmira, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Polk County Law Enforcement Memorial Fund, Inc. Due to COVID, attendance will be limited.
