Maureen Quinn Russell, 70, of Lithia, FL, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 26, 2024, in Riverview, Florida, after a very sudden illness. A native of Danvers, MA, she had resided in the Tampa Bay area for the past seven years.
After graduating from Danvers High School, Maureen obtained her a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Salem State College in 1975, and her Master’s in Public Health from Boston University in 1987. She was a dedicated nurse throughout her career from 1975 through 2018. A two-time cancer survivor, Maureen threw herself into advocacy for cancer research. For many years, she participated in the Susan G. Komen Walk for the Cure, in Boston and Chicago.
In Florida, Maureen was a member of Holy Innocents' Episcopal Church where she delighted in being a member of the church’s Bell Choir. She and her husband, Mark, loved to travel, especially cruising. Maureen loved to collect art in her travels, eventually winning over her husband in that endeavor. An avid craft maker, she loved knitting and sewing, especially quilts. Many of her family and friends delight in the handcrafted gifts with which she blessed them. In recent years, she turned her hobby into an avocation, “Russell Sprouts - Handmade,” where she took her love for handmade craft to local art fairs and festivals.
Maureen is survived by her husband, Mark Russell; son, Ian Russell; daughter, Annie Russell Barone (Charles); brother, Jay Quinn (Helen); sisters, Kathleen Quinn, Janet Quinn Bell (Brad), and Sharon Quinn Hafford (Darin); three grandchildren, Leah, CJ, and Liliana; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Maureen will be held at Holy Innocents' Episcopal Church, Valrico, on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at 10 AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.
