Rufener, Mary Lou, 67, passed away on Sunday, April 24th, 2016, having suffered a Brain Hemorrhage. Mary was born in Champion, Ohio and she lived and taught all over the world. She met and married Sean Gaffney, an Irishman, in Australia and they settled in Tampa, Florida in 1982. Mary taught chemistry and Physics among other subjects at Tampa Catholic, Chamberlain and Riverview High, where she was respected and loved by students and staff alike. She retired in June 2014 and was enjoying the full benefits of a more relaxed lifestyle. Mary was much loved and admired by all who knew her, friends, family and colleagues. She was a warm hearted and funny woman and is survived by the love of her life, her husband of 37 years, Sean; her sister, Gayle Tawney and her brother, David Rufener (Sandy). She will be sadly missed by all her extended family both here and in Ireland, who all remember her for her loving heart and joyful spirit. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 30th, 2016 from 11:00 to 1:00p.m. at Southern Funeral Care, 10510 Riverview Drive, Riverview, FL. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to Riverview High PTSA in Mary's name. All are welcome at her memorial service, there will be an opportunity to share memories at 12noon.
