Mary Henderson McCloskey, 91, of Sun City Center, FL passed peacefully into the loving arms of Jesus on July 17, 2026, surrounded by her family.
Mary was born on December 8,1934 in Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Illinois to Blair and Frances Pardee Henderson. She moved to Jacksonville, FL in 1944 where she grew up, married and had three children-Frances, Blair, and Christopher.
Mary worked for over thirty years as a manager in the business office of Southern Bell Telephone Company in Jacksonville and then later transferred to their Orlando location. This is where she met and married the love of her life, Robert McCloskey. Their wedding made the local news & the paper, as they were married in a local hospital by their pastor, after he had back surgery!
Upon retiring, Mary & Bob moved to Pinetta, FL, where they built a home on 45 acres and raised cows & bulls for ten years. Mary would name all the cows and could often be heard calling "Here girls!!!" when it was time to eat and the cows would come to her from wherever they were! Upon Bob's passing, Mary sold the ranch and moved to Redington Shores for her love of the beach. A few years later, she moved to Starke, FL to be closer to siblings and family members and then finally settled in Sun City Center, to be closer to her son, Chris.
She was an avid Florida Gator and Tampa Bay Lightning Fan and loved spending time with her friends and family. Mary was a beautiful soul. Her kindness knew no limits and her heart was always open. Her love touched everyone who had the joy of knowing her. She had a way of making everyone feel important, loved and cared for. Her warmth, gentle spirit, sweet smile and contagious laugh will be cherished forever in our hearts.
Mary is survived by her youngest sister, Beth Macumber, and two of her children, Frances Link and Christopher Weaver (Cynthia). Mary has 9 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert McCloskey, her brother, Frank Henderson, sisters Jane Thrower & Nancy Sapp, and her son, Blair Weaver.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Southern Funeral Home, 10510 Riverview Drive in Riverview, Florida. Gathering of family & friends will be from 12pm-1pm, followed by the
