Mark L. Thomas, a man of fierce love, unwavering integrity, and unmatched wit, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in San Antonio, Texas, on December 19, 1960, to Otto and Hilda Thomas, Mark’s journey eventually brought him to Tampa, Florida. While attending Tampa Bay Technical High School, he met the absolute love of his life, Connie. Their beautiful love story officially culminated in marriage on June 16, 1979. Together, Mark and Connie built a 47-year foundation rooted deeply in love, happiness, adventure, and plenty of fun.
Mark proudly joined the United States Navy, embarking on a career that served as a grand adventure for his family. Professionally, those he worked alongside and mentored with deep respect called him "Chief," a nod to his hard-earned military rank. Privately, he affectionately dubbed himself "Markman." No matter the title, Mark was a leader of integrity who always stayed true to himself and did things his way right up to the very end.
Beneath his strong exterior, Mark was ultimately a big teddy bear at heart. He was the protector and the true anchor of his family. He kept life incredibly interesting with his constant pranks, quick-witted humor, and an endless registry of brilliant stories from his life experiences. Outside of his service, Mark was happiest when traveling the world, experimenting in the kitchen, and passionately cheering on his favorite Tampa sports teams.
Mark leaves behind a rich legacy of love and laughter. He is survived by his beloved wife, Connie Thomas; his daughter, Michelle Hash, and her husband, Jason; his son, Mark A. Thomas, and his wife, Jennifer. He was the proudest Papa to his eight grandchildren: Devon, Austin, Sadie, Peyton, Samson, Lillian, Eleanor, and Zion.
