Obituary for Marilyn Yvonne (Von) Barnes
Marilyn Yvonne (Von) Barnes was born July 16, 1935 in Hillsboro, Texas and passed away with elegance, grace, dignity and very peacefully on June 2, 2018 in Brandon, FL with her family by her side. Von is a loving wife of 56 years to J.P. Barnes and the mother with unconditional love to Robbin Cullaro (husband Doug), Jay Barnes (wife Julie) and Mitzi Toner whom survive. She is also survived as Grandma and Mama to 6 grandchildren Christina, Katherine, Douglas, Emily, Kenzie and Brianne, 5 great-grandchildren Kaleb, Gavin, Garret, Luke and Olivia and her close sister Mary Mabry in Midland, Texas. Mom's love for her family was unconditional, supportive and the glue that kept the family strong.
Von is a member of St Andrew's United Methodist Church since 1972 when she and J.P. moved to Brandon from San Angelo, Texas. She was an active member of the choir, Sunday School and always a welcoming presence to visitors, new members and long time friends at the church. When there was a need, Mom was always willing to help by sending a card, making a phone call or delivering food, etc. Her faith in God was always present and a source of strength to everyone. Von was also an active square dancer and was part of the Spinning Wheels Square Dance Club. Von loved to sing and dance.
As a travel agent, Von traveled all over the world and escorted groups on Alaskan cruises for many years. She loved to travel and meet people from all walks of life during her journeys. Her heart was adventurous in seeing the world and kind to those who crossed her path. No one was a stranger.
Von's presence will be greatly missed. The love and kindness she gave and showed to the world will remain in our hearts and carry on through all those she touched. God is lucky to have her and we are blessed to have had her in our lives.
She is now with her family Leon Mabry (father), Tommie Scott (mother), Clinton Barnes (father-in-law), Hertha Barnes (mother-in-law), Louise and Don Gorman (sister and brother-in-law) and Melvin Barnes (brother-in-law).
