The family of Marian F. Cairo (nee Carrie), 82, of Riverview, FL, a longtime resident of Wauconda, IL, is deeply saddened to share that Marian passed away Sunday, March 15, 2026. Marian was born on November 28, 1943, to Thomas and Mildred Carrie Sr. in Des Plaines.
She is survived by her husband; Jerry Cairo, and children; Michael, Ann Marie (Mike), Angela and Matthew; daughter-in-law, Teri; along with her grandchildren; Joe (Hannah), Tony (Kennedy), Emilia, Maya and Helen; great-grandchild, Anthony; brother, Thomas H. Carrie, Jr. She was preceded in death by both her parents.
Marian attended school in Des Plaines, IL until her parents moved the family to Island Lake, IL where they found a wonderful close-knit community and made many friends including her lifelong best friend, Donna Kennebeck. Marian finished out her high school years at Wauconda High School as the class of 1961. She met her future husband, Jerry Cairo of Island Lake, in high school where they began dating and soon married in 1964.
Marian and Jerry were self-entrepreneurs who worked tirelessly overseeing various family businesses throughout her lifetime. For many years she would balance taking care of their children (with the loving assistance of Jerry’s mother and aunt) while also assisting Jerry at work.
In Marian’s spare time she was an award-winning Avon Lady, a member of the LYAA and a volunteer troop leader for the Girl Scout fundraisers (newspaper drives, car washes and a cookbook sale) to help fund travel to Wyoming and other destinations for her daughters’ troops. She loved to travel and play cards, especially when her cousins got together, Matthew was her favorite.
Further details will be announced at Marian’s request. Please consider making a donation in her name to the following charities she supported that held special meaning due to her family’s connections for the American Heart Association and ALS.
