Lynnette B. Lota, 80, of Riverview, FL, passed away on Monday, November 6, 2023. A native of Bryan, OH (home of Dum Dum and Etch-A-Sketch), Lynne lived most of her life in FL. She was well known as a teacher in the Hillsborough County School System, having taught for 36 years at East Bay High School. Lynne was known as “Mom” to her many drama students, and was heavily involved in many aspects of school life, including the Wrestlerettes. In her early years, she loved playing sports, reading, and riding bikes. She was a drum majorette and was crowned the 1961 Bryan Jubilee Queen. Lynne loved creating and was known in her close circle for her beautiful holiday cards, recipes, calligraphy, and pies. She had a way of making simple things extraordinary.
Lynne is survived by her stepchildren: Tommy Lota (Jackie), Kathy Hall (Dale), and Lynnette Reina (Ivan); her brother Robert Burkholder (Debra); 4 grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas Lota (“Coach”).
A Celebration of Life gathering of family and friends will take place Friday, November 10, from 2:30-4:30pm at Southern Funeral Care, 10510 Riverview Drive, Riverview. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Lynnette Morrill Lota Arts Scholarship for the Drama Departments at East Bay and Riverview High Schools.
