With deep love and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of LuElla May Simmons, who departed this life peacefully on September 26, 2025, at the age of 92.
Born on December 5, 1932, LuElla was a beacon of generosity and strength throughout her life. Raised in a time of great change, she carried with her the enduring values of hard work and unwavering faith in God. Her presence left a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to know her. Through the meals she lovingly prepared, the wisdom she enthusiastically shared, or the stories she passed down from one generation to the next, LuElla was loved by her family.
She was a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and friend. Her legacy lives on in the lives she nurtured and the lessons she taught — to be generous, to be strong, and to love.
LuElla found deep fulfillment in her career as an accountant, a profession she proudly passed down through multiple generations. Her pride in her work was matched only by her steadfast belief that every task, no matter how small, was worth doing well. Her faith in God was her compass, guiding her gently and steadily through life’s joys and trials.
She now joins her beloved husband, Delma Ray Simmons; her parents, Walter Chester and Gertrude Mary Hannaway; her siblings, Walter Hannaway, Buddy Hannaway, Mildred “Dolly” Shore, Frank Hannaway, Earl Hannaway, and Gertrude “Judy” Murray; and her cherished great-grandson, Blake Weckman. Though missed beyond measure, we take comfort in knowing she is reunited with those she loved so dearly in Glory.
LuElla leaves behind a family who adored her and will carry her memory forward with pride and tenderness. She is survived by her devoted daughters, Renee and Kevin Grooms, Shelley and Harold Siekbert, and Lorri Simmons; her loving siblings, Arlene Kelley and Norman Murray; her treasured grandchildren, Darlene (John) Wheeler, Douglas Grooms, Amanda (Sammy) Hoelscher, Matthew (Missy) Siekbert, Emily (Christopher) Covington, and Andrew (Hannah) Hill; her beloved great-grandchildren, Victoria Hatmaker, Dylan Grooms, Dalton Grooms, Haley Ruttle, Paul Goodman, Virginia Siekbert, Maxwell Siekbert, Christopher Covington, Elias Covington, Abigail Covington, Avery Hill, Silas Hill, and Bodie Hill; and her precious great-great-grandchildren, Addison Barnett, Opal Hatmaker, Xaiden Ramey, and Bellamy Ramey. Her legacy of love, strength, and sacrifice lives on in each of them, and the values she instilled will echo through generations to come.
A service honoring LuElla’s life and legacy will be held at Southern Funeral Care in Riverview, FL on October 20th at 2:00 p.m., followed by a reception for family and loved ones.
Though she has departed this earthly life, LuElla May Simmons will never be forgotten. Her spirit remains ever present—in the laughter of children, the warmth of shared meals, and the enduring strength of family.
