Laurence (Larry) Oscar Frazer transitioned peacefully at home on March 4, 2024, with his wife and daughter lovingly and prayerfully at his bedside.
He was born in Georgetown, British Guiana, now known as Guyana, South America to Irene Albertha and Harry Alexander Fraser on November 3, 1924. He was Catholic by faith, baptized in Brickdam Catholic Church in Georgetown where he served as an Alter Boy and was educated at Brickdam School.
In his late teen years, he embarked on an adventurous, yet dangerous trip as a stow-away aboard a ship which ended up in Cuba where he lived independently, without friends or family for one year.
It had always been his desire to relocate to the United States and he moved to New York. After a year, he chose to move to Baltimore, Maryland where he lived in a boarding house for a few years. There he met Mrs. Branch who went from Landlady to Surrogate Mother.
In 1949, he began employment at C & P Telephone Company of Maryland which lasted for nearly 39 years, retiring in 1988. His service with the company was interrupted only briefly for a stint in the United States Army during the Korean War. Subsequently, he met and married Christine Harrison in 1962 and shortly thereafter became a naturalized citizen of the United States.
He was a member of Prince Hall Masonic Temple and St. John Lodge #5 in Baltimore; Founding Member of The Fellowship Associates (comprised of Telephone Company and Postal Service employees); and a TLOD Lord of the chapter in Tampa organized by his wife Chris.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 6 siblings; Nephew, Joel Fraser; Godson, Jimmie Young and Goddaughter, Dana Brooks.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife Christine of 62 years; daughter, Dawnette Frazer-Woods; grandson, Joel Frazer-Woods(Chelsey Holmes); great-grand children, Cannon Lee Frazer and Mya Grace Frazer; Sisters-in-law - Anne H. Davis and Delores Majette; Nieces-in-law; Nephews-in-law; extended family members and special friends, John Eskeridge, Carl Farrell and Gloria Fletcher.
Special thanks to caregiver, Simone Smart and the 4th Floor Staff of St. Joseph's Hospital South.
A funeral service will be held at Southern Funeral Care on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at 10:30 AM with family receiving friends one hour prior. Interment will follow at Sarasota National Cemetery.
