Obituary for LaVita Martina Norman-Rodriguez
LaVita Martina Norman-Rodriguez passed away March 31 at Tampa General Hospital at the age of 37.
She loved God, her family, being of Service to others in her community, traveling and a good red lipstick.

LaVita was born on January 2, 1985, to Anthony and Lorna Norman. LaVita worked as a paralegal for Attorney David Stamp Esq, where the social justice bug bit her. She was delayed in her activism by a 2008 car accident that left her a paraplegic. The care she received at Tampa General Hospital fueled her determination to give back. She volunteered in the TGH Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Seeing some of the more critical cases ignited a fire to be a Florida Guardian Ad Litem volunteer. LaVita graduated Saint Leo University with her Master’s in Business Administration. When she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer at age 33, she began to investigate how young women were being denied the life-saving screenings. When her breast cancer returned and metastasized in May 2020, LaVita, started her work with the American Cancer Society lobbying for underserved and underinsured women to receive preventative and routine breast/cervical cancer screenings. Taking her fight all the way to the Florida State Legislature with the “Mary Brogan Act”.
From 2008 and 2022 LaVita would travel to India twice with her parents, travel to Washington DC to apply for Law School. Inspiring everyone she met to do more for their community, all while rocking her signature red lip. She was preceded in death by Grandparents John and Virginia Mason, Hartley and Gladys Norman and Aunt Callie Mason. LaVita’s Legacy of advocacy will continue through her Parents Anthony and Lorna Norman. Siblings; Linett (David) Adell; Anthony (Courtney) Mason; John (Aliya) Norman and Tikita Crumpler-Hill. Nieces Trinity, Joanie, Nadia, and Alani. Nephews David, Skylar, Grayson, and Julian. Her Uncle Larry Mason, Aunt Linda (Fred) Davis and Aunt Lynda Norman. “Frien-sins” Larry (Donna) Ginn-Davis and Laureesa (Kevin) Puma. 2nd Cousins Desiree (Brad) Rhoades; John (Anastasia)Ginn-Davis; Marissa (Joshua) Davis; Chelsea Ginn-Davis; Dante (Maggie)Ginn-Davis and Olivia Davis. Ex-Husband Carlos Rodriguez.
Her family and friends would love to acknowledge the exemplary care of LaVita’s Cancer Care team-Dr. Robert W. Weaver; Dr. Wayne C. Lee (and family); Dr. Harvey Greenberg; Dr. Meira Pernicone; Dr. Charles Cox; Dr. Abigail Beard; Dr. Sameer Nagamia and Dr. George Cheeseman, Medical Professional, Tia Benitez. We could not have endured these difficult times without your grace, mercy, and skill. We are grateful for the work that you continue to do. The family also wishes to give special thanks to Attorney “Uncle” Ted Taylor and “Auntie” Sharon Taylor for your many years of support and all-encompassing love.
LaVita believed that a life in service to others is what God called her to do. She wants you to remember BE the Light that refused to Surrender for those in the dark.
