Katherine Louise Zimmerman
September 17, 1957 – August 16, 2021
On Monday, August 16, 2021, Katherine Louise Zimmerman, age 63 went home to be with the Lord after a brief battle with the coronavirus. Kathy leaves behind a loving legacy, being survived by her husband of 41 years, David Zimmerman, and their 3 children, Tim (Emily) Zimmerman, Kim (Matt) Heinz, and Heather (John) Williams. She was a beloved Grandmother to her 10 grandchildren, Michaela, Lizzy, Savannah, Blake, Ryland, Paige, Hailey, Callen, Kate, and Makenna. In addition, she is survived by her father, Howard Short, and her 3 siblings, David (Kathy) Short, Sam (Jane) Short, and John (Johnita) Short, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Kathy was preceded in death by her mother, Wanda Short. Kathy was born on September 17, 1957 in Austin, Texas to Howard and Wanda Short. The Shorts were a military family, and moved many times during her childhood. Of all the places they lived, she always said that Guam was her favorite. It was on their final move to Tampa, Florida where she met her future husband, David, at church in 1979. They were married the following year and began to raise their family in the Brandon area. One of Kathy’s greatest joys was being able to work at the school where her children attended. Later in life, when the kids were grown, she went to work for Progressive, where she continued for over 20 years. Kathy was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ who loved her family dearly. She had a love for music and passed that love down to her children and grandchildren. She had a caring heart, and was loved by all who knew her. She will be greatly missed. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, August 27, 2021, at Fellowship Baptist Church, Thonotosassa, with the family receiving friends one hour prior to services. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Florida Gulf Coast Alzheimer’s Association.
