On March 13, 2023, Joyce Annette Graham Clements – Thorn, loving mother, and grandmother, passed away at the age of 97. She was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on January 25, 1926. She was preceded in death by her husband Fred Thorn, parents John Graham and Virginia Graham. Joyce loved to teach and taught English and Humanities at Brandon High School for 10+ years. She then began writing a weekly column “Dining and Entertainment” at the Tampa Tribune as well being the author of “The Dining Guide” that was published a few times a year. She retired from the Tampa Tribune after 20 years of sharing her love for food and writing. Joyce graduated from Miami University in Ohio and then at the age of 46 obtained her master’s degree in English, from the University of Tampa.
Her life was a living example of the Bible Verse, Ephesians 4:32 – “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as in Christ God has forgiven you.”
Joyce is survived by her brother, Donald Graham of Valrico, Florida, sons John (Sandy) Clements of Valrico Florida, Robert Clements of Orlando Florida, and two granddaughters, Kaitlynn Clements of Valrico Florida and Isabella Clements of Orlando Florida as well as many cousins. All of these she loved and touched deeply.
Memorial services will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, March 23, 2023, at Southern Funeral Care, Riverview, with the family receiving friends from 10:30 A.M. until 11:00 A.M.
Joyce will be buried alongside her late husband at the Sarasota National Cemetery, a Veteran’s cemetery located at 9810 State Road 72, Sarasota, Fl. 34241.
