Joshua Lee Barnard, 30, passed away on September 22, 2024. Born on November 20, 1993, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, Joshua was a man of many talents and passions. He loved building things with his hands, tending to his garden, cooking up delicious meals, and spending time fishing. He had a deep love for the mountains and frequently hiked the trails in the Shenandoah Valley, where he found peace and connection with nature. His infectious sense of humor brightened the lives of those around him—he was a natural jokester, always finding ways to make others laugh and laughing right along with them.
Joshua was also known for his incredible generosity. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, regardless of the distance. His selflessness and kindness touched many lives, and he never hesitated to offer his time and skills to those who needed it.
Joshua faced many challenges in his life, overcoming personal demons and obstacles with strength and determination. His greatest pride was his ability to raise his beloved 9-year-old daughter, Madison Barnard, who was the light of his life.
Joshua was currently residing in Riverview, Florida, after relocating a year ago to be closer to his mother and grandparents, a move that strengthened his already close relationship with them. Joshua shared a deep and loving bond with his mother, Jackie Hodges. Their connection was built on love, support, and understanding, and was a source of strength and comfort for both.
Joshua is survived by his daughter, Madison Barnard; his girlfriend, Tara Dennie; his mother, Jackie Hodges; his father, Kenneth Barnard; his half-brothers, Brandon and Cooper Barnard; his half-sisters, Lauren, Emily, and Izza Barnard; and his grandparents, Cindy and Donnie Hodges, and Brenda Larsen. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on October 19, 2024, from 1-3 p.m. at the South Cove Clubhouse, 12511 Cedarfield Dr, Riverview, FL 33579.
In lieu of flowers, a trust is being set up for his daughter, Madison Barnard, under the name The Joshua Barnard Memorial Trust.
