John Walker Metz
METZ, John Walker, 66, of Alva, passed from this life on Sunday, October 12, 2014, at Madigan Army Hospital, Fort Lewis, WA. John served in the US Army with the 101st Airborne Division as a Combat Medic in Viet Nam. He was a former Lee County Sheriff's Deputy and one of the first Police Officers with the Sanibel Police Department. John was also a Licensed Funeral Director/Embalmer and former owner of Metz Funeral Home, Cape Coral. A member of LaBelle Masonic Lodge #379 and former member of the Cape Coral Masonic Lodge #367, he was a member of the Caledonia Club, German-American Club, Rotary Club of Cape Coral, Sons of the American Revolution, Alva Little League Coach and Lee County Sheriff's Office Jail Ministry Program. John loved the outdoors and was an avid bass fisherman and became a fishing guide on Lake Okeechobee and followed the Professional Bass Fishing Circuit. He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Burnam Walker; mother, Dolores Metz Youngman; step-father, Donald L. Metz and his younger brother, Michael B. Metz and is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Judy Golden Metz; daughters, Laura (Roger) Eckenroth, Puyallup, WA, Lisa (Wayne) Neary, Canton, MI and Lacey (Jason) Watson, stationed in Oahu, HI; brother, Richard (Rita) Healy, Havana, FL; 9 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Funeral Information
Graveside services will be held 1:00 P.M. Friday, July 10, 2015, at Alva Cemetery, Alva, FL.
