John T. Mayock of Palm Harbor, FL passed away peacefully on July 12, 2026 after a courageous battle with cancer. John was born on October 8, 1951 in Hartford, CT, son of the late James and Dorothy Mayock. John graduated from Bishop Duffy High School in Niagara Falls, NY and from Fairfield (CT) University. He was the principal and owner of Mayock Real Estate Appraisal Co., and Mayock Real Estate Group LLC.
John is survived by his sister Carol and Robert Vespa, his brother Richard and Margery Mayock, his nieces and nephews Jonathan (Sarah) Vespa, Jamie Vespa (Kyle Harpster), Kyle (Bailey) Vespa, Lauren (Christopher) Dube and Daniel Mayock. He is also survived by his great nieces and nephews Charlie and Teddy Vespa, Camden and Cole Dube, Finn and Siena Harpster and Jack Vespa. John was predeceased by his parents and his beloved Siberian Husky Cleamons.
John lived life with an enthusiasm that was impossible to miss. He approached each day with a smile, a quick wit, and a positive outlook that inspired everyone fortunate enough to know him. John truly believed there was good in everyone, and he had a remarkable gift for making friends wherever he went. To many, he wasn't just a friend—he was family.
His sense of humor was legendary. Whether he was delivering one of his many unique and unforgettable "Johnisms" or offering a perfectly timed joke, John had an incredible ability to make people laugh and brighten even the toughest days. His optimism was contagious, and his presence made every gathering a little livelier.
John was a devoted sports fan whose loyalty never wavered. He passionately cheered for the Fairfield Stags, New York Yankees, New York Knicks, and all of Tampa's sports teams. One of his greatest joys this year was witnessing the Knicks capture their first NBA Championship in 53 years.
Family was at the heart of everything John did. He treasured every opportunity to spend time with those he loved, especially his annual birthday weekend celebrations at Clearwater Beach, surrounded by family and making memories that will be cherished forever. He also looked forward to adventurous traveling to new places, and to his trips to Connecticut and Colorado to visit "his kids," creating lasting memories with each trip.
A cherished part of John's daily life was his second family at the gym. More than just a place to exercise, it became a community where John naturally stepped into the role of social director. He welcomed newcomers, encouraged old friends, and made sure everyone felt included. His daily routine was as much about friendship and laughter as it was about fitness.
John leaves behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, friendship, and unwavering positivity. His joyful spirit, generous heart, and unique way of looking at the world touched countless lives. John taught us that life is meant to be lived with gratitude, humor, and an open heart. His memory will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know and love him.
