Obituary for John Russell Bowersox
John Russell Bowersox, 62 of Riverview, FL passed away Thursday, Nov. 14, 2019 at Brandon Regional Hospital after a long and courageous fight with cancer. He was born Oct. 6, 1957, in Lewisburg, PA, to Selin and Jean Bowersox.
He is survived by his father, Selin Bowersox of Lewisburg; daughter Abbey Bowersox, son Josh Bowersox and his wife Courtney, three grandchildren all of Tampa, FL; sisters Deborah Rice, Paula Sassaman and her husband Larry, two nieces, four nephews, a number of great-nieces/nephews, three aunts and various cousins all of the Lewisburg, PA greater area.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Jean Bowersox of Lewisburg, Pa.
John graduated from Lewisburg High School in 1975. Upon graduation he followed his entrepreneurial spirit and took over the family business in automotive services. He owned Bowersox Sunoco Service until 1985. During this time, he also owned various real estate in the Lewisburg area. In 1985 he moved to Brandon, FL where he continued to raise his family and advance his career in the automotive industry. He was a noble businessman, beloved father and loyal friend.
John was known for his great “Mr. Fix It” abilities. He could fix anything: cars, home repairs you name it. He had a passion for cars, riding his motorcycle with the Widow’s Sons and taking on the role of “Proud Papa” to his sweet grandkids. He always had a friendly smile on his face and took time to help those in need. He took pride in his community and was a long-time member of the Brandon Masonic Lodge #114, F.&A.M., Tampa Scottish Rite, Egypt Temple Shrine, Brandon Shrine Club and the Widow's Sons Masonic Riders Association.
Funeral services will be held 12:00 P.M. Saturday, November 23, 2019, at Southern Funeral Care, Riverview, FL, with the family receiving friends one hour prior to services. Final services and interment will be in Lewisburg, PA.
