Obituary for John Charles Simon
Simon, John Charles, 84, of Riverview, passed away peacefully after a brief illness at home, on Saturday evening, June 25, surrounded by his wife Elaine and several family and friends.
Born May 31, 1938, in Beardsley, MN, John met his wife Elaine on a blind date and lived a life of faithful love for 61 years where they were always seen in the same seats for Sunday Mass.
John is survived by Elaine, his wife of 61 years; sons, Michael (Dawn) Simon, Jeff (Jennifer) Simon, grandson Justin, granddaughter Taylor and grandson Logan, sister Janice (Franny) Dehmer, St Michael MN, brother Bill Simon, St Joe, MN, Joe (Lois) Simon, Waite Park, MN, brother Ray (Sharon) Simon, St. Cloud, MN and will be missed by them as well as many other family and friends.
Preceded in death by parents Charles and Isabel; his son Tim Simon; siblings, Mike Simon, Richard Simon and Joan Woyke.
John was an active member of St. Stephens Catholic Church; Knights of Columbus, and Local 123 Steamfitters Union and Florida Flywheelers Antique Engine Club. John was previously the Fire Chief of the Riverview Volunteer Fire Department and active in the Boy Scouts with his sons. He proudly served in the US Air Force.
The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to St. Stephens Catholic School, Heart to Heart fund.
The family will receive family and friends on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Southern Funeral Home, Riverview. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 A.M. Thursday, June 30, 2022, at St. Stephen Catholic Church. Interment will follow, with Military Honors, at Serenity Meadows Memorial Park, Riverview.
