Whitworth, Joe Darrel Sr., 76, of Gibsonton, Fl, passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2017. Joe served in the US Navy for four years and was stationed on the USS Lake Champlain and in the early 1960's while he was on the USS Champlain working as an aviator mechanic, he assisted in picking up Astronant Alan Shepard out of the ocean. Joe also worked for Continental Can Company for many years before retiring in Florida in 1995. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Kathy; children, son, Joe Jr., and daughters, Kim and Michelle; three brothers; one sister, and 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Information
A Celebration of Life Service will take place at 11:00am, Friday, February, 24th at First Baptist Church of Gibsonton with the family receiving friends one hour prior to the services.
