Jerry J. Alderman, Sr.
November 3, 1930 ~ September 30, 2022
Jerry was born on November 3, 1930 in Plant City, Florida. He went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on September 30, 2022. He is survived by his devoted wife of sixty-nine years, Shirley Rich Alderman, Son, Jerry Joe Alderman, Jr. (Debbie), Daughter, Debbie Alderman Coleman (Donny), grandchildren, Sarah Welch (Mike), Matthew Coleman (Kelly), Tiffani Tarter (Jamison) and Jacob Alderman (Emily), and great-grandchildren, William Coleman, John Welch, Madison Coleman, Sadie Alderman, Adeline Tarter and Zoey Tarter, brothers, Robert Alderman and Richard Alderman, and sisters, Wilma Woodruff, Audrey Campaner and Barbara Fender and numerous nieces and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Lessie Alderman, brothers, Jesse Alderman and Cliff Alderman and sister, Edna Dalton.
Jerry proudly served his country and his Lord and Savior. He served in the United States Navy on the Destroyer ship, The USS Collette DD730 from 1948 through 1952 where he became a Christian and led Sunday Services on the ship. Jerry often and repeatedly loved to share his adventures and stories of Navy life with his family and friends.
Jerry was a charter member and deacon at Southside Baptist church in Brandon, Florida. He was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ and was unashamed to share his faith with anyone. Jerry often said he had a BA degree … Born again in Jesus.
Jerry retired from CSX Railroad after 30 years of service. Following his railroad retirement he continued to work in several long term positions through the years. His last employment was with Home Depot where he finally left the work force at the age of eighty-eight. He was a member of Brandon Masonic Lodge #114, F.&A.M.
His work ethic was unsurpassed and is a continuing legacy to his children, grand-children and great-grandchildren.
There will be a time of visitation with the family at Southern Funeral Care, 10510 Riverview Drive, Riverview, Florida 33578 on Friday, October 7, 2022 at 10 am followed by a memorial service at 11 am. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the Gideon's International, P.O. Box 97251, Washington, DC 20090-7251.
