Obituary for Jeanne Fells Shearman
Jeanne Fells Shearman was granted her last greatest wish on Tuesday, September 21. She went to heaven and she saw Jesus. She died peacefully in her sleep at Hawthorne Village in Brandon, Florida. Jeanne was born on February 1, 1928 in Baltimore, Maryland to Foster and Florence Fells. In 1949 Jeanne married Lloyd (Bill) Billingsley Shearman Jr., the love of her life. The city girl moved to the country and fully embraced life on the Shearman farm in Glen Arm. She picked berries and made jams and pickles to sell. She also had four daughters with Bill - Susan, Jill, Jackie and Sally, and together they gave the girls delightful childhoods.
Jeanne loved to sing. As a young woman she sang for the soldiers at the local USO club. She sang in church choirs, around campfires when we were camping, and around the house as she worked, accompanied by the radio. If an appropriate song came on the radio, she treated her family to a tap dancing performance.
In 1974 Bill and Jeanne moved to Wimauma, Florida where Bill had moved the family beekeeping business. Jeanne made friends easily and was soon fully involved in her church and community. She worked at a local tomato packing plant, at estate sales and then she ran an agriculture building at the Florida State Fair for many years. In their “spare time,” Bill and Jeanne loved traveling around the U.S. and Canada in their RV, visiting brick collecting friends as they went. As Jeanne grew older she was still able to keep up her favorite ministries of sending birthday cards to everyone in the church and working at Meals on Wheels.
Jeanne had a long and wonderful life, filled with love for people and her Lord. There is much more that could be said, but suffice it to say, she sparkled. That sparkle will be missed terribly by her husband of 72 years, Bill; her daughters Susan Tuttle (Jack), Jill Singleton (Phil), Jackie Wheaton (Byron), and Sally O’Hara (Scott), her 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, as well as her sisters Joan Stickline (Dennis) and Judy Johnson (Bill) and their children.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, November 4, 2021 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 402 East Lumsden Road, Brandon.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jeanne’s memory to the ministry of Meals on Wheels. Checks should be made out to Westminster Presbyterian church with Meal on Wheels written on the memo line.
