Janet Carol McDonald, 84, passed away July 7, 2023. Jan was born in Alma, Michigan to Grenfal Nichols and Nellie Rud. Jan grew up in Akron, Ohio and attended Kenmore High school, where she was a spirited cheerleader.
Jan was a bright and savvy business woman. She was a hard worker all her life, succeeding and receiving accolades in many careers until she decided to start her own insurance agency, AMAC, at the age of 65. With her sharp mind and wonderful people skills her business was a thriving success. After selling her business in 2017 she moved from Hobe Sound, FL to Riverview, FL to be near her family.
Jan loved people. She made friends everywhere she went. She was involved in a number of clubs, committees, boards, and anything that gave her the opportunity to make friends and make a difference in her community. She loved taking cruises, dancing, and was the luckiest bingo player the game has ever seen. She was full of smiles, warmth, and loved all animals, but had a special place in her heart for cats.
Above all, she loved her family fiercely. Any opportunity she had to see a sporting event for a grandchild or great grandchild she was there with bells on. Every birthday party, celebration, graduation, holiday meal, backyard BBQ or family vacation was her greatest joy. And she radiated that joy to her family every time she was near them.
We will miss her smile, incredible sense of humor, hugs, laughter, visits and utter joy and zest for life. It was contagious. Anyone that knows Jan knows that you couldn’t help but smile when you were around her.
She is survived by her daughter, Nanci Fairfax, Son in Law, Kevin Fairfax; two grandchildren, Whitney (Peter) Tragos and Colby (Jenna) Fairfax, as well as four great grandchildren, Brooklyn (10), Chloe (7) Maverick (7), and Jaxson (4); and two sisters, Karen Overfield and Jolene Jackson (Larry Simmons).
A Memorial service will be held 12:00 P.M. Friday, July 28, 2023, at Southern Funeral Care, 10510 Riverview Drive, Riverview, where friends may visit from 11:00 A.M. until service time. A Celebration of Life gathering will take place immediately after the service at Kingswood, 10109 Oak Forest Drive, Riverview, FL 33569.
