Obituary for Jan Schwarz Bennett
Jan Schwarz Bennett, 84, of Valrico, FL, passed away September 12, 2020. A fourth generation Pennsylvanian, born in Lock Haven, PA (Clinton County), on May, 31,1936, he was preceded in death by his father, Harry Cerine Bennett, Jr. and mother, Edna Mae Schwarz Bennett. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Martha Futch Bennett; daughter, Tamara Sue Metzler and son-in-law, Michael Paul Metzler, Denton, TX; two grandchildren, Erika Metzler (Sean) Holland, Oklahoma City, OK and Brett Joseph Metzler, Denton, TX, who will be ordained as a Catholic Priest in May 2021; Great-Granddaughter, Ayla Joan Holland. A 1954 graduate of Lock Haven High School, a 1961 graduate of University of Tennessee with a B.S. Degree and 1967 graduate of University of Mississippi with a M.Ed Degree (Eng. Lit.). He was a Head High School Basketball Coach for 33 years in various Florida High Schools, an Assistant Coach at University of Mississippi for 2 years, Head Coach at West Georgia College for 4 years, Assistant Coach for both men & women’s basketball programs at the University of South Florida, Tampa. He won the George M. Steinbrenner Coach of the year award in 1994 and was inducted into the Florida High School Coaches Hall of Fame 2012. Memorial services will be held 9:00 A.M. Saturday, September 26,2020, at Holy Innocents’ Episcopal Church, 604 N. Valrico Rd. Valrico Fl.33594. A Celebration of Life reception will follow the service at the Loyal Order of Moose, Valrico. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Stevenson Library, Lock Haven University Foundation, 214 Ulmer Hall, 401 No. Fairview Street, Lock Haven, PA. 17745 or to Moffitt Cancer Center, 12902 Magnolia Dr., Tampa, FL 33612 or to Hospice Chapter Health Foundation, 12470 Telecom Dr., Suite 300, Temple Terrace, FL 33637, all in memory of Jan Schwarz Bennett.
