James Lee Stowers
STOWERS, James Lee, 79, of Liberty, TN died peacefully Thursday, December 16, 2010. Born July 12, 1931 in Tampa, Fl and raised in Palm River. He attended Brandon High School before joining the merchant marines in 1945 at the age of sixteen. He then enlisted with the United States Marine Corps in 1948, serving in the Korean War. He was a long haul truck driver most of his adult life working for Eastern Express, Artim trucking, and Roadway Express where he received awards for over one million miles of safe driving. During the 1970's, he was a deputy sheriff for the Porter county Sheriff's department with his own K-9. Dad loved his animals and had his own mini zoo that he always complained about but you could never take it away from him. He is survived by his wife, Jan Stowers; children, Jan (Ronnie) Tucker of Oak Leaf, TX, Patricia Poling of Houston, TX, Don (Debbie) Poling of Union Mills, IN, William (Sandy) Poling of Merrillville, IN, Richard Poling of Valparaiso, IN, Ken Stowers of San Antonio, TX, and stepson, Keith Redfern; brother, Dick (Raymetta) Stowers of Brandon, FL, Tony Knox of Trinidad, B.W.I, 7 grandchildren, 1 great- granddaughter, numerous nieces, nephews, grand- nieces and grand- nephews. Services will be held at a later date with interment in Nashville National Cemetery, in Madison, TN.
